Native Michigan Plants
Welcome to Copper Leaf Forest
Copper Leaf Forest is a small, family-owned, specialty nursery featuring plants only native to Michigan that are seldom found in larger nurseries and big box stores.
We operate from 12 pm to 5 pm every Saturday and Sunday outside the entrance of The Creature Conservancy at 4940 Ann Arbor Saline Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. We are open seasonally from April through October. We do not do deliveries or online orders at this time.
Why Grow Native?
While non-native species like Common Buckthorn, Purple Loosestrife, and Eurasian Phragmites are destroying our native plants and ecosystems, we have committed to planting native plants. This seems like a no-brainer. After all, native plants were literally designed to grow in our area. Why grow anything else?
Native plants are not only ecologically friendly, but they also help to preserve the unique character of our area. When we import plants from other regions, we make our community indistinct from other states and even other countries. Michigan is home to unique wildlife and we intend to keep it that way.
A Sustainable Option
We are USDA licensed and all plants are legally and ethically sourced. All of our plants are native to Michigan and most are propagated from local ecotypes of a given species to ensure that each plant is well-suited for this environment.
Not just our plants are eco-friendly, our pots are too. We grow in compostable pots to reduce plastic production. Seriously, think about how many nursery pots get thrown out annually! Compostable pots are good for the planet and the plant. Planting compostable pots directly in the ground also reduces transplanting shock significantly, if not entirely.
